Cont'd, McKays-Tragedy Averted, Family Preserved

These family stories have always been inspiring to me! William and Ellen Oman McKay and their family of five children sailed for America on May 3, 1856 from Liverpool, England, on the ship Thornton to join the Saints in Utah. My Great Grandmother was one of those children, Isabella (14). The following from Spiritual Quests, pub.1999, by Carol Ann Shepherd.
One can only imagine the great joy this family felt after 6 hard weeks on the sea to finally see their dreams begin to be fulfilled, New York City-AMERICA! Disappointment sometimes come to all of us. I have always believed that the Lord preserved this righteous family for a purpose. Read on:

Isabella's younger brother, David (12) later became the father of a prophet, David Oman McKay.  The steadfastness of this wonderful family has inspired me all my life to keep me moving forward no matter what the challenges may be. It took the McKays two years to work to save enough money to leave New York City for Iowa. Then it took another year of working in Iowa City to acquire 2 steers, 2 cows, and an old ox, 1 covered wagon and provisions. They finally left with the James S. Brown Company June 13, 1859,  arrived in Utah August 29, 1959, and then settled in Huntsville, Utah. The rest of this family's story is compelling. In fact, my Great Grandmother, Isabella McKay Wadley's story is very powerful as well. It is found in Spiritual Quests (coming soon). These strong women have been role models for me all my life. "We are all a little bit of everyone who has gone before!"
